Outdoor Kitchens & Fire Pits in Rockford, IL

Fire and food are the two anchors of most outdoor entertaining. Tree Care Enterprises designs and installs both — from a simple wood-burning fire pit kit to a full masonry outdoor kitchen with built-in grill, prep station, refrigeration, and bar seating.

Fire Pits & Fire Features

Wood-Burning Fire Pits

The most common and most affordable. Built from manufactured fire-pit kits (Belgard, Unilock, Techo-Bloc) or custom-built from masonry block with stone veneer. Permits are usually not required for in-ground wood-burning pits, but local municipal code varies — we check before designing.

Budget range: $2,500–$8,000 for a complete installation including site prep and pad.

Gas Fire Pits

Cleaner, switch-on convenience, no smoke or wood storage. Require a gas line run from the house (we handle plumber coordination) and a permit in most jurisdictions. Look ranges from rustic (lava rock filler) to modern (glass beads, linear burners).

Budget range: $5,000–$15,000 including gas line.

Masonry Outdoor Fireplaces

Full vertical fireplace with chimney — typically 8–10 feet tall, masonry construction with stone veneer. Anchor for a high-end outdoor room. Substantial project: footing, masonry, chimney venting, and cladding.

Budget range: $15,000–$45,000.

Fire Bowls and Linear Fire Features

For modern aesthetics: cast concrete fire bowls, linear gas fire troughs integrated into seat walls, or pool-adjacent fire features. Often combined with water features.

Budget range: $5,000–$25,000.

Outdoor Kitchens

Basic Built-In Grill Stations

A masonry or stone-veneered base with a built-in grill drop-in, side burners, and counter space. Suitable for homeowners who currently use a freestanding grill and want a more integrated, permanent solution.

Budget range: $8,000–$20,000.

Mid-Range Outdoor Kitchens

Built-in grill, refrigerator, prep sink, storage, and counter run. Electrical and plumbing routed underground. Bar seating with countertop overhang.

Budget range: $20,000–$50,000.

Full Outdoor Kitchens

Multiple cooking elements (grill plus pizza oven plus smoker), refrigeration, ice maker, kegerator, multiple prep zones, dishwasher, sometimes a stone hood vented up through an adjacent fireplace chimney. Designed for serious entertaining.

Budget range: $50,000–$150,000+.

Materials & Equipment Brands

  • Grills: Lynx, Hestan, Twin Eagles, Coyote, Blaze (we'll match your budget and use preferences)
  • Refrigeration: Sub-Zero, U-Line, True Outdoor (UL-rated for outdoor use)

Process

Same four-phase design-build process as our other landscape work. The notable difference for outdoor kitchens: utility coordination (gas, water, electrical) extends the design phase, and code or permit compliance is more involved than for a simple patio. We handle all of it.

Service Area

Outdoor kitchens and fire pits throughout Winnebago and Boone counties — Rockford, Loves Park, Machesney Park, Roscoe, Rockton, Belvidere, Poplar Grove, Cherry Valley, Pecatonica, Winnebago, South Beloit, and surrounding communities.

Common questions

Before you start a project

How long does a landscape design-build project take?

Most residential projects run 6–12 weeks from initial consult to install completion. Larger estate projects or multi-phase hardscape can run a full season. The site consultation itself happens within a week of your call.

What does a design consultation cost?

The initial site consultation is always free. Design fees roll into the build cost once a project is signed — there is no separate design invoice.

Do you handle the design and the install, or just one?

Both. Tree Care Enterprises is a design-and-build firm. Our designer produces the plan, our own crews execute the install. No subcontracted hardscape, no design-only handoff.

What does a project cost?

Most residential landscape design-build projects fall in three rough tiers — $8K–$20K for a single patio or seating area, $20K–$60K for a typical mid-range design with hardscape and planting, and $60K+ for estate or full-property work. We give you a real budget tier at the site consultation before any design work begins.

Will the design protect my mature trees?

Yes — that is the central thing Tree Care Enterprises does differently from a general landscape contractor. Our ISA Certified Arborists consult on every design decision near a mature tree, from patio location to wall footing depth to drainage routing. Mature trees are usually the most valuable thing on a property; the design has to support them.

Where do you work?

Winnebago and Boone counties in northern Illinois — Rockford, Loves Park, Machesney Park, Roscoe, Rockton, Belvidere, Poplar Grove, Cherry Valley, Pecatonica, Winnebago, South Beloit, and surrounding communities.

When can you start?

Most installations happen April through November when ground conditions allow proper base preparation. We schedule design consultations year-round; build slots fill from early spring outward, so winter is the best time to plan for the following season.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Tree Care Enterprises carries full general liability and workers' compensation insurance, holds TCIA Accreditation, and our arborists are ISA Certified. Certificate of insurance available on request.
