When Does a Tree Need to Come Down?

Not every declining tree needs to be removed, but some situations leave no safe alternative. Our arborists look for:

• Structural failure risk: Severe lean, co-dominant stems, cracked trunks, or root damage that makes the tree a hazard to structures or people.
• Advanced disease or decay: Internal rot, fungal conks at the base, or extensive dead wood that compromises the tree’s ability to stand safely.
• Storm damage: Rockford winters bring ice storms and high winds that can split large limbs or uproot entire trees — especially in older neighborhoods with mature silver maples and cottonwoods.

Our Tree Removal Process

1. On-site assessment. A certified arborist visits, evaluates the tree, identifies hazards, and discusses your options. We explore preservation first — if the tree can be saved with cabling, pruning, or treatment, we’ll tell you. If removal is the right call, we give you a clear explanation and a written estimate.

2. Site preparation. We lay down ground protection, establish safety zones, and position equipment to minimize impact on your lawn, garden beds, and surrounding trees.

3. Removal. Depending on the tree’s location and condition, we use climbing and aerial rigging, bucket trucks, or directional felling. Limbs are lowered in sections; we don’t drop wood on your property.

4. Stump grinding. We grind stumps to below grade — standard on most jobs or available as an add-on. This eliminates regrowth and trip hazards and lets you replant or restore lawn over the area.

5. Full cleanup. All debris, chips, and wood are hauled or chipped on-site. We rake and blow the area before leaving.
